Job Description:

A school and college in Burgess Hill is seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a positive and friendly community, committed to providing individualised care and learning for students aged 2 to 19, including those with autism.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide individualised care and learning support to students, acting as a Pupil Champion for their academic, social, emotional, and personal care needs
  • Collaborate with staff and therapists to deliver a highly personalised curriculum
  • Foster an inclusive community where students feel happy and supported
  • Contribute to an environment that encourages all students to achieve their full potential and makes learning exciting and accessible

Requirements:

  • Genuine passion for working with children and young people with special educational needs, especially those with autism
  • Empathetic, understanding, and patient approach
  • Collaborative team player
  • Proactive learner
  • Excellent communication skills
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Level 2/Grade C or above)
  • Strong understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Access to own transport

Nice to have:

  • Background in youth work
  • Experience in administering medication
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviour
  • Experience with autism spectrum disorders
  • Experience with learning difficulties
  • Experience with social emotional mental health
  • Manual handling
  • Restraint training
  • Speech and language therapy experience
