A truly impactful and rewarding opportunity is available for a specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a purpose-built SEN School provision near Banham. This role is focused on pupils whose primary needs are related to ASC, where anxiety and sensory processing differences significantly impact their ability to access education and regulate their emotions. Your expertise will be vital in providing a consistent, therapeutic presence. You will be responsible for helping students manage sensory overload, understand social demands, and use appropriate communication methods. You will typically provide 1:1 support or work with a small group within a highly structured classroom or resource base, implementing strategies such as the TEACCH method.
Job Responsibility:
Provide specialist, highly structured 1:1 support to named pupils with ASC, diligently implementing their individual education and therapeutic targets
Masterfully implement visual supports (timetables, choice boards) and maintain a predictable classroom routine to minimise anxiety and promote safety
Apply effective low-arousal de-escalation techniques and positive behavioural strategies, understanding that challenging behaviour often stems from communication breakdown or sensory distress
Work closely with the school's therapy teams (SaLT, OT) to facilitate the use of communication aids and sensory diets within the daily routine
Facilitate structured social skills development and support pupils through critical transitional periods of the school day
Maintain meticulous, objective records of pupil sensory needs, anxiety triggers, and successful interventions to inform future planning and professional reviews
Serve as a stable, empathetic role model, building a trusting relationship that encourages the pupil's gradual independence and engagement
Requirements:
Significant professional experience supporting children or young people within a specialist setting, particularly those with complex Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Proven ability to successfully implement structured methodologies (e.g., TEACCH) and use a wide range of visual and communication supports
Strong working knowledge of sensory processing differences and their impact on behaviour and learning
Exceptional levels of patience, consistency, and resilience under pressure, with a clear focus on proactive, preventative support
Excellent observational skills, with the ability to interpret non-verbal cues and report complex information accurately
Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly)
What we offer:
A specialist daily pay rate of £90 - £95, recognising the high level of structure and skill required for this role
Placement within a highly therapeutic, resource-rich SEN School near Banham, offering comprehensive clinical and leadership support
Access to advanced, specialist CPD in ASC intervention, complex communication, and emotional regulation strategies
A profoundly rewarding role offering the chance to specialise your skills and achieve deep, meaningful progress with vulnerable pupils
