We are seeking a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant with extensive experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full-time, ongoing role is based within an Upper School setting, supporting learners across Key Stage 3 to Post 16, depending on the class. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping pupils engage with learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive behaviours, working closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team.
Job Responsibility:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and associated needs
Support pupils to access the curriculum while promoting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour
Implement behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and de-escalation strategies
Support learning across a range of subjects, adapting approaches to suit individual needs
Assist with the delivery of personalised learning programmes, EHCP outcomes, and ILPs
Promote independence, self-esteem, and social development
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals
Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and progress monitoring
Ensure safeguarding and welfare of pupils at all times
Requirements:
Proven experience working with pupils with SEMH needs
Experience supporting pupils in KS3, KS4 and/or Post 16 settings
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Calm, patient, and consistent approach under pressure
Ability to adapt to changing needs and routines
Commitment to inclusive and trauma-informed practice
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
Nice to have:
Team Teach, MAPA or other positive behaviour management training
Experience within SEN schools, Alternative Provision, or PRU settings
Understanding of trauma-informed, restorative, or therapeutic approaches
Experience supporting pupils with additional needs such as ASD or ADHD
