We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join an alternative provision setting. This provision supports children who do not currently have access to mainstream education due to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges or behavioural difficulties. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to provide tailored educational and pastoral support, enabling students to engage with learning, develop socially, and achieve their potential.
Job Responsibility:
Support pupils with SEMH or behavioural challenges in both individual and small group settings
Implement differentiated learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher or SENCO
Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them manage behaviour and build resilience
Assist in the creation of bespoke learning resources tailored to individual pupil needs
Monitor and record pupil progress and report observations to the teacher/SENCO
Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment
Support the delivery of interventions, including social skills, literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing programmes
Attend team meetings, training sessions, and contribute to the development of SEN strategies and policies
Requirements:
Experience working with children with SEMH or behavioural challenges
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Ability to develop positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
Patience, resilience, and empathy when supporting children with complex needs
Good communication and teamwork skills
Nice to have:
Previous experience in an alternative provision or special school setting
Knowledge of strategies to support mental health, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour
