Job Description

A welcoming primary school in Horsham is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a brilliant Year 5 student with ASD who thrives with structure, calm reassurance and positive relationships.

Job Responsibility

  • Work 1:1 with a Year 5 student with ASD
  • Provide clear structure and consistent routines
  • Support with focus, transitions and organisation
  • Provide gentle behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
  • Assist with classwork, small‑group tasks, and reinforcement of learning
  • Provide encouragement, modelling and lots of positive praise
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to follow support plans and create a calm, trusting working relationship

Requirements

  • Patience, kindness, and consistency
  • Experience supporting ASD (in school or outside) — not essential but a big advantage
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Ability to build rapport and help a child feel safe and confident
  • Team player who is happy to follow guidance and contribute ideas
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services

Nice to have

Experience supporting ASD (in school or outside)
