Job Description

We are working closely with an inclusive and forward‑thinking mainstream primary school in Crawley who are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with additional needs predominantly within the school's outdoor provision. This role is ideal for someone who understands the power of learning through play, movement, and exploration, and who can use the outdoor environment to help children regulate, engage, and succeed.

Job Responsibility

  • Supporting children with SEN through play‑based and experiential learning outdoors
  • Helping pupils regulate emotions, behaviour, and sensory needs using the outdoor environment
  • Encouraging communication, social interaction, and independence
  • Working 1:1 and in small groups as needed
  • Supporting transitions between indoor and outdoor learning
  • Working closely with class teachers, TAs, and the SENCo to follow personalised strategies
  • Promoting inclusion, safety, and positive behaviour at all times

Requirements

  • Has experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in a primary setting
  • Is calm, patient, and confident supporting children with regulation needs
  • Enjoys working outdoors and understands the benefits of learning beyond the classroom
  • Can follow guidance while also using initiative
  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with children and staff

Nice to have

Experience with autism, sensory processing needs, or SEMH

What we offer

  • A consistent, full‑time role rather than ad‑hoc supply
  • Opportunity to support children in a creative, active learning environment
  • Support from experienced school staff and SEN leadership
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated education recruitment partner
