Job Description:

A new specialist SEN school is opening in Knowle this May, and we’re looking for a thoughtful, creative SEN Teacher to help shape its very first classrooms. Before the new site opens, you’ll spend time at the school’s established Fishponds provision, gaining hands‑on experience with the pupils, curriculum, and approaches that make this setting so successful. As a SEN Teacher, you’ll lead a class of pupils with complex needs through a highly personalised, developmental curriculum. Instead of traditional subject‑based teaching, you’ll design meaningful learning experiences that focus on communication, independence, sensory regulation, life skills, and emotional development. You’ll work closely with a skilled team of support staff, therapists, and leaders to create a calm, nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive. This is a role for someone who values creativity, flexibility, and relationship‑based practice.

Job Responsibility:

  • Planning and delivering a personalised SEN curriculum tailored to individual developmental levels
  • Leading a class team and modelling best practice in communication, sensory support, and regulation strategies
  • Creating engaging, accessible learning experiences that build confidence, independence, and meaningful progress
  • Working closely with HLTAs, LSAs, therapists, and senior leaders to ensure consistent, holistic support
  • Using a range of communication approaches (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC) depending on pupil needs
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils through warmth, patience, and clear boundaries
  • Contributing to routines, expectations, and culture within a brand‑new school environment

Requirements:

  • QTS (Primary training is highly valued due to developmental curriculum)
  • Strong experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Confident in adapting learning for a wide range of complex needs
  • Skilled in communication, sensory‑based approaches, and relationship‑centred practice
  • Creative, flexible, and able to think differently about what learning looks like
  • Excited to help shape a brand‑new school community from day one
What we offer:
  • Competitive pay and generous referral bonuses
  • Access to excellent CPD, including Team Teach and Trauma‑Informed Practice
  • Support from a dedicated consultant who knows the school well
  • Opportunities to work across multiple specialist sites
  • A strong focus on staff wellbeing and professional growth
  • Weekly pay and a smooth, supportive onboarding process
