We are looking for a passionate SEN Teacher to join Haywards Farm School, our Ofsted rated Outstanding independent special school in Theale, Berkshire. At Haywards Farm, we are very proud of what we provide to our pupils, families and the wider community. Our highly skilled and dedicated team of teachers, teaching assistants and therapists work holistically to get to know every learner and build their education around each unique, individual child. You will be teaching primary-aged children (5–11 years) with social, emotional and mental health needs in small class groups. Our pupils learn with values of safety, belonging and aspiration, supported by a trauma-informed approach and access to therapeutic interventions. Job Responsibility:
Deliver high-quality, engaging teaching adapted thoughtfully to meet individual SEND needs in a small class setting
Use trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to create a safe, nurturing learning environment
Manage behaviour with empathy and clear boundaries, helping children feel secure and able to learn
Work closely with our therapy team including speech and language therapists and mental health practitioners
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and their families, promoting personal development and wellbeing
Contribute to curriculum development and whole school improvement, upholding our values of safety, belonging and aspiration
Maintain accurate pupil records and fulfil all professional responsibilities with care and integrity
Requirements:
A degree or equivalent qualification in a specialist subject
Clear understanding of the national curriculum and how to adapt it for pupils with SEND
Robust knowledge of behaviour management techniques, theories and their practical application with children with complex needs
Sound knowledge of planning and assessment techniques, including personalised learning approaches
Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and equal opportunities requirements
Relevant classroom teaching experience, particularly with young people with wide-ranging and complex needs
Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
Confidence using ICT and a variety of teaching resources to plan, deliver and assess outstanding learning
Strong teamworking skills and the ability to work collaboratively to deliver a holistic educational package
Resilience and the ability to cope with competing emotional demands
Excellent time management skills with an adaptable, creative and flexible approach
Commitment to self-development and continuous professional learning
Nice to have:
Specialist SEND qualifications or training in SEMH, trauma or attachment
Experience working in an independent or specialist school setting
Knowledge of therapeutic frameworks such as Thrive
