Job Responsibility
Bespoke Learning Delivery: Plan, differentiate, and execute engaging lessons across a modified curriculum, aligning every activity with the specific targets outlined in each student's EHCP
Total Communication Integration: Embed functional communication aids-including PECS, Makaton, and visual schedules-into daily routines to support non-verbal and semi-verbal pupils
Classroom Team Leadership: Manage, inspire, and coordinate a team of dedicated specialist Teaching Assistants to maintain a safe, synchronised, and highly supportive learning environment
Positive Behaviour Support: Implement proactive de-escalation techniques and sensory breaks to support students navigating emotional dysregulation or sensory overload
Small-Step Progress Tracking: Utilise specialised SEN frameworks to track, record, and celebrate micro-milestones in student achievement and independence
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Liaise closely with onsite speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and parents to provide a unified network of care
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) / QTLS: Mandatory. A proven track record of leading classrooms within a special school, alternative provision, or specialised unit
SEND Expertise: Deep knowledge of adaptive pedagogy, sensory processing needs, and effective positive behaviour management strategies
Emotional Resilience: A calm, patient, and grounded demeanour, with the ability to remain a stabilising presence during behavioural or emotional crises
Strong Leadership Flair: The confidence to direct support staff effectively and cultivate a collaborative, high-performing classroom team
Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad)
