We are seeking an inspiring Qualified SEN Teacher to join a wonderful, heart-centred SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term role for a practitioner who thrives in high-support settings, working with pupils who have Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication needs. In this school, you are more than a teacher; you are an advocate for independence and a champion for every child's unique potential.
Job Responsibility:
Design and implement highly individualised learning programs that balance academic progress with vital life skills and sensory integration
Lead a "Total Communication" classroom, seamlessly integrating Makaton, PECS, and AAC devices
Utilise specialised "small-steps" assessment frameworks to record and celebrate development toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets
Create a low-arousal, highly structured environment that priorities emotional safety and utilises Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies
Manage and mentor a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants
Collaborate with onsite therapists, families, and external agencies to provide a holistic, 360-degree approach to each student's wellbeing
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
deep understanding of-or a strong desire to master-frameworks like Attention Autism (The Bucket Time), TEACCH, and Sensory Stories
ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during challenging moments
genuine drive to ensure students are treated with dignity and are empowered
enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad)
