Are you looking for the rewarding challenge of Special Educational Needs teaching with the flexibility of a supply schedule? We are seeking adaptable and resilient Qualified Teachers (QTS) for supply cover at our partner SEN Schools in Ipswich. As a supply teacher in an SEN setting, no two days are the same. You might be supporting SEN students in the class in the morning and facilitating a life-skills session for students in the afternoon. This is the perfect role for educators who thrive on variety and want to broaden their specialist experience without the pressure of full-time planning and meetings.
Job Responsibility:
Adaptive Delivery: Step into various classrooms and deliver pre-set plans with confidence, adapting the material on the fly to suit the sensory and cognitive needs of the group
Positive Climate Control: Quickly build rapport with students using a 'low-arousal' approach, maintaining a safe and regulated environment through Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Effective Team Direction: Quickly integrate with the classroom's permanent Teaching Assistants, utilising their student-specific knowledge to ensure safe and effective 1:1 support
Communication Access: Utilise the school's existing communication systems-such as Makaton or visual timetables-to ensure students feel secure and understood during a change in routine
Feedback & Reporting: Provide concise, helpful handovers for the returning class teacher, noting student engagement and any significant 'small-step' achievements
Safeguarding Vigilance: Maintain the highest standards of safety and safeguarding, following individual student risk assessments and school policies meticulously
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory
Versatility: The ability to move between different age groups and needs (ASC, SLD, MLD, or SEMH) with a positive and proactive attitude
Emotional Resilience: A grounded, patient temperament that allows you to handle the unpredictable nature of an SEN environment with grace
Classroom Presence: The confidence to lead a team of TAs and manage a classroom immediately upon arrival
