Job Description:

We are searching for a dedicated Qualified SEN Teacher to lead a specialist classroom in Thetford. This role is designed for a practitioner who excels in high-support environments, specifically working with pupils diagnosed with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing needs. In this setting, your primary objective is to create a "safe harbor" for learning where students feel regulated enough to take risks and achieve their personal best.

Job Responsibility:

  • Curriculum Innovation: Design and deliver a "living curriculum" that priorities functional life skills and sensory exploration alongside core academic targets
  • Communication Mastery: Integrate a "Total Communication" approach across all lessons, utilising Makaton, PECS, and visual aids
  • Targeted Progress Mapping: Take ownership of student assessments, focusing on "small-step" trackers
  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS): Maintain a low-arousal, highly structured classroom environment that utilises Zones of Regulation
  • Team Leadership: Manage and empower a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants
  • Collaborative Advocacy: Work in partnership with parents, educational psychologists, and therapists

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Familiarity with evidence-based frameworks such as Attention Autism (Bucket Time), TEACCH, or Sensory Stories
  • Emotional Resilience
  • Compassionate Leadership
  • An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad)
