Horizon Care and Education have an exciting opportunity for an SEN Teacher to join our schools! We are delighted to be recruiting an SEN Teacher for Bushbury School in Wolverhampton. This role involves teaching and supporting children with a wide range of special educational needs, including Autism and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Bushbury School is an independent specialist day school providing high-quality education for boys and girls aged 7–19. Our pupils have diverse and often complex profiles, with many working significantly below age-related expectations and requiring an approach grounded in early developmental stages, pre-formal learning, and communication-rich teaching. We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate, and adaptable educator to join our dedicated team. You will contribute to a nurturing environment that supports pupils with a range of needs, with a particular focus on Autism, SLCN, and sensory processing differences. Many of our pupils present with profound and multiple learning needs, requiring an approach informed by early years pedagogy, even at upper primary and secondary ages.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver an inclusive, personalised curriculum that responds to each pupil’s developmental stage and EHCP outcomes
Use structured play, sensory experiences, communication-first approaches, and therapeutic strategies to maximise engagement
Collaborate closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, including a highly experienced SENCo, therapists, and dedicated support staff
Create a positive learning climate built on compassion, consistency, and deep respect for each pupil’s unique strengths and needs
Contribute to ongoing school development as we enhance our curriculum pathways and readiness for future Ofsted inspection
Requirements:
Delivering an Early Years or play-based curriculum that emphasises exploration, sensory learning, and developmental sequencing
Working within a stage-not-age model, prioritising individual learning pathways over chronological age
Supporting pre-verbal and minimally verbal pupils, using AAC, intensive interaction, and a total communication environment
Meeting the needs of pupils with significant sensory needs, including creating sensory-regulating learning environments
Providing intimate care safely, respectfully, and in line with policy, as required for some pupils
