Job Description:

We are searching for a Qualified SEN Teacher to join a dedicated specialist school in Bury St Edmunds. This role is designed for a teacher who thrives in a small-class environment and possesses the creative spark needed to make the curriculum accessible for students with Autism (ASC), SEMH, and Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD). In this setting, your primary objective is to foster an environment of safety, curiosity, and measurable personal growth.

Job Responsibility:

  • Design and deliver highly differentiated lessons that blend academic objectives with functional life skills and sensory engagement
  • Manage and mentor a team of Teaching Assistants
  • Integrate Total Communication approaches-including Makaton, PECS, and visual prompts
  • Take ownership of EHCP reviews and individual learning plans
  • Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans
  • Work closely with parents, SENCOs, and external therapists (OT/SLT) to create a unified, holistic support network

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Familiarity with specialist frameworks such as Attention Autism, SCERTS, or TEACCH
  • The ability to remain calm, reflective, and resilient
  • A desire to become a stable, long-term pillar within the school community
  • An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one)
