We are seeking a Qualified SEN DT Teacher to lead the technical arts curriculum within a specialist school in Thetford. This role is designed for a practitioner who understands that for students with Autism (ASC), MLD, or physical disabilities, Design & Technology is a vital outlet for tactile learning and problem-solving. You will be responsible for making the workshop a safe, inspiring, and highly regulated environment where every student can create.
Job Responsibility:
Inclusive Workshop Management: Adapt traditional DT projects (woodwork, textiles, or food tech) into accessible, "small-step" tasks that align with various cognitive and physical abilities
Safety & Regulation: Maintain a highly structured, low-arousal environment, teaching students the "why" behind safety protocols using visual aids and social stories
Sensory Integration: Incorporate tactile and sensory experiences into the design process, allowing students to explore textures, weights, and resistances as part of their material studies
Functional Life Skills: Focus on "Design for Life"-teaching students how to use tools safely and effectively, fostering the coordination and confidence needed for post-16 independence
EHCP & Assessment: Use specialist tracking to document progress against Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, celebrating milestones in fine motor skills and following multi-step instructions
Support Team Leadership: Manage a team of Teaching Assistants to ensure 1:1 safety supervision during practical sessions and effective tool handling support
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Specialist Adaptability: The ability to simplify complex technical processes into visual, symbol-supported instructions
Resilient Calm: The ability to remain a grounded, co-regulating presence in a busy workshop environment
Commitment to Inclusion: A passion for proving that everyone-regardless of their diagnosis-can be a maker and a creator
Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad)
What we offer:
Elite Daily Rates: Weekly pay from £150 - £220 (PAYE)
Local Expertise: Work with Neeraj, your dedicated consultant who knows the Thetford and Norfolk specialist education landscape
Specialist CPD: Access free, senior-level training in Team Teach, Autism Awareness, and Health & Safety in the SEN Workshop
Stability: Secure a full-time, long-term position in a school that values practical subjects as a cornerstone of SEN development
