A Light Duty Semi-Trailer Mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs trailer components—such as brakes, lighting, suspension, and tires—to ensure compliance with DOT safety standards. Responsibilities include diagnosing electrical/mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and repairing structural damage to trailers.
Job Responsibility:
Perform routine inspections, lube services, and repairs on trailer systems including air brakes, suspensions, wiring, and lighting
Repair roofs, panels, doors, flooring, and rub rails
Ensure all trailers meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using specialized tools and equipment
Maintain accurate records of, and in some cases enter data for, all repairs and maintenance
Perform welding and cutting as needed for repair
Requirements:
1–3 years in trailer maintenance or similar mechanical work
Knowledge of air brake systems, electrical systems, and structural repairs
Must have a personal set of hand tools
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, bend, crouch, and work in varied weather conditions
