An established and growing accountancy practice is looking to add an experienced Semi Senior Accountant to its accounts team due to continued expansion. This is a hands-on role supporting a varied client base, where you'll take ownership of accounts preparation while working closely with managers and assisting with the development of junior team members. The position offers exposure to a broad range of work across accounts, tax, VAT and (where applicable) audit, making it well suited to someone looking to progress their technical knowledge within a supportive practice environment.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare draft statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
Produce working papers and lead schedules in line with internal procedures
Complete balance sheet and profit & loss reviews, highlighting queries and key observations
Prepare VAT returns, liaise with clients on liabilities and ensure timely submissions
Assist with management accounts preparation and analyse variances or unusual trends
Draft corporate tax computations for review by senior team members
Review work completed by junior staff and provide constructive feedback
Support and mentor accounts and audit assistants as part of their development
Communicate directly with clients to obtain information and respond to queries
Assist on audit assignments when required, following agreed plans and instructions
Manage workloads effectively to meet internal budgets and statutory deadlines
Maintain regular communication with managers regarding progress and issues
Requirements:
At least 4 years' experience within an accountancy practice environment
Studying ACA or ACCA, or AAT qualified (or equivalent)
Previous exposure to audit work is beneficial but not essential
Good working knowledge of UK accounting standards (FRS 105 / FRS 102 1A desirable)
Strong attention to detail with a professional and confidential approach
Confident communicator, able to work with both colleagues and clients
Willingness to learn, develop and take on increasing responsibility
Able to work collaboratively and support the development of junior team members
