About the role: Justteachers are currently seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students within a specialist setting in Wigan. This role involves working closely with children and young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to access education in a safe and structured environment. You will play a key role in supporting students both in and out of the classroom, promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing. Working alongside teachers and support staff, you will help deliver tailored interventions and assist in adapting lesson materials to meet individual needs. This is a highly rewarding role where relationship building is essential, and no two days are the same. The ideal candidate will be calm under pressure, proactive, and passionate about making a difference to the lives of vulnerable learners.
Job Responsibility
Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
Assist in managing behaviour and implementing individual support strategies
Support the delivery of lessons and adapt resources to meet student needs
Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and trust
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies
Requirements
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Patient, empathetic, and resilient nature
Ability to build rapport quickly and maintain professional boundaries
A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
