We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support KS3 pupils at a forward-thinking and supportive specialist SEMH school in Altrincham. You’ll be joining a committed and enthusiastic team within a nurturing environment that supports children aged 4–16 with a wide range of social, emotional, and mental health needs. In this role, you will play a key part in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning atmosphere where every student feels valued, encouraged, and able to thrive. This is a long-term role with an immediate start, offering you the opportunity to make a real and lasting impact from day one.
Job Responsibility:
Provide 1:1 and small‑group pastoral support to pupils with SEMH needs
Build positive, trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing
Support students in developing emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and social skills
Work closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored support strategies
Assist with de‑escalation and facilitate restorative conversations when required
Contribute to maintaining a calm, safe, and nurturing school environment for all pupils
Requirements:
Previous experience working with children in a school or similar setting (essential)
Background in supporting students with SEND, including Autism, SEMH, and other additional needs
Ability to stay composed and patient when faced with challenging situations
Strong commitment to supporting children’s learning and overall development
