We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Teaching Assistants to support pupils in educational settings across Dorking. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who require additional emotional, behavioural, and learning support. Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff, you will help create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment that enables students to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
Job Responsibility
Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
Assist in implementing individual learning and behaviour support plans
Build positive and trusting relationships with students
Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills
Promote positive behaviour and de-escalate challenging situations effectively
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
Monitor and record student progress and wellbeing
Requirements
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to build positive relationships and establish appropriate boundaries
Resilience and confidence in managing challenging behaviour
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
Nice to have
Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
Experience within schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care settings, or residential support
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and behaviour management strategies
