Job Description:

We are seeking a high-impact SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Ipswich that supports students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. These students are often highly capable but have faced significant barriers to learning. They don't just need a classroom assistant; they need a mentor, a role model, and someone who remains a calm anchor even when things get loud. If you have a thick skin, a soft heart, and a relentless fresh start mentality, we want to hear from you.

Job Responsibility:

  • Crisis intervention and de-escalation using a low-arousal approach
  • Relationship-led support building deep rapport with students
  • Emotional literacy coaching
  • Curriculum scaffolding to reduce failure anxiety
  • Nurture group leadership focusing on social skills, conflict resolution, and teamwork
  • Detailed reporting for EHCP reviews and pastoral meetings

Requirements:

  • Experience in youth work

  • ex-military/police backgrounds
  • enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process a new one through Randstad)
