Justteachers is currently seeking a compassionate and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Loughborough from September. This rewarding opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them achieve both academically and personally. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide targeted support, helping students to overcome barriers to learning and develop positive relationships, resilience and confidence.
Job Responsibility
Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs
Assist students in managing emotions, behaviours and social interactions within the school environment
Support teachers in delivering engaging and accessible learning activities
Encourage positive behaviour and help students remain focused and engaged during lessons
Build strong, trusting relationships with students to promote confidence and self-esteem
Support the implementation of behaviour support plans and personalised learning strategies
Assist with de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches when required
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs and external professionals
Monitor student progress and contribute to records, reports and review meetings
Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and positive outcomes for all students
Requirements
Have previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or educational setting
Demonstrate a calm, patient and resilient approach when supporting students with additional needs
Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
Be confident supporting students with challenging behaviour and emotional regulation difficulties
Show a genuine passion for helping young people succeed
Be adaptable and able to respond effectively to changing situations
Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
Be able to work effectively as part of a wider support team
Be able to provide references covering recent employment history
Hold, or be willing to obtain, an enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service
