Job Description:

We are looking for a permanent SEMH Teacher to start this September at a specialist setting that supports secondary-aged students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role involves teaching across the curriculum, planning lessons, managing behaviour, and working closely with support staff and external professionals. This school, a specialist setting in Halifax, offers a calm, nurturing environment where staff work as a close-knit team. With a focus on relationship-building, therapeutic support, and student-led progress, the school helps young people re-engage with education and discover their potential. Students are taught in small groups with a high adult-to-student ratio, allowing for individualised learning and emotional support.

  • Deliver engaging lessons tailored to small groups or individuals
  • Plan differentiated work to meet EHCP objectives and academic targets
  • Build strong relationships based on consistency and respect
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies with a trauma-informed approach
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and outside agencies
  • Track progress and write reports on academic and emotional development
  • Work collaboratively with TAs, therapists, and support staff
  • Participate in team meetings and safeguarding updates
  • Attend regular CPD to further develop SEN and SEMH knowledge
  • Record incidents accurately and follow safeguarding protocols

Requirements:

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)

Nice to have:

  • Empathy
  • Behaviour management expertise
  • Emotional resilience
  • Differentiated planning
  • Strong communication
  • Adaptability
What we offer:
  • A supportive, collaborative working environment
  • Opportunities for career progression and ongoing professional development
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of students
