Job Description:

A supportive and trauma-informed high school in Dewsbury is seeking a committed SEMH Specialist to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis. The school provides a nurturing environment for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and includes an onsite alternative provision designed to offer personalised pathways for learners who require additional support. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting emotional regulation, positive engagement and consistent progress for pupils who benefit from a relational and restorative approach.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs across both mainstream and alternative provision settings
  • Building strong, trusting relationships through trauma-informed practice
  • Implementing personalised strategies to promote emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
  • Working collaboratively with pastoral teams, SENCOs and external agencies
  • Delivering targeted interventions to help pupils develop resilience, self-regulation and confidence
  • Contributing to a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records to support ongoing provision

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed approaches and relational practice
  • Resilience, patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A proactive, compassionate and consistent approach to supporting vulnerable learners
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
