AK Teaching are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Support Assistant to support and educate students who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with a focus on Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will play a crucial role in supporting children to manage their behaviours, engage in learning and develop essential life skills. Job Responsibility:
Provide 1:1 or small group support to children with SEMH needs, helping them engage with their learning in a calm and supportive environment
Assist in managing challenging behaviours through positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans
Build trusting, supportive relationships with students to promote self-confidence and emotional regulation
Monitor and record the progress of students, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents/carers
Support students during breaks, transitions, and extra-curricular activities as required
Requirements:
Previous experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH or SEND, is highly desirable but not essential
A patient, empathetic approach with the ability to stay calm in challenging situations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
A commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment and promoting equality for all students
Ability to work as part of a collaborative team while also showing initiative when required
Knowledge of or a willingness to learn about relevant policies, strategies, and best practices for supporting children with SEND
