Job Responsibility:
prepares, seasons, and cooks food items following recipes and menus
assists in preparing less complicated menu items such as breakfast, lunch, and selected dinners
coordinates work of cook helpers and other kitchen staff
operates kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, fryers, steamers, mixers, and slicers
measures and mixes ingredients to make stocks, sauces, gravies, soups, stews, casseroles, and other foods
prepares food portions, applies garnishments, and assists with patient meal trays
tests food for quality by sight, smell, taste, temperature, and feel
maintains sanitation and safety standards
records food usage and leftovers
Requirements:
high school diploma or equivalent preferred
1-2 years of relevant food preparation experience
ability to follow detailed instructions
familiarity with kitchen equipment operation
ability to work part-time, 32 hours per week
physical ability to lift 40-50 pounds
effective communication skills
willingness to work day shifts under supervision
ability to read, write, understand, and follow oral and written instructions in English
1-2 years work experience in food preparation including 1 year as a cook
or equivalent combination of education and experience
