A Gonzaga University Security Officer oversees the safety and security of campus property, students, staff, faculty, and visitors. A Gonzaga Security Officer participates in and protects an educational, mission-driven community that develops students to be leaders and serve the common good.
Job Responsibility:
Patrol campus property and surrounding area
Deters criminal activity
Maintains visibility
Observes and monitors campus conditions
Verifies the security of campus facilities
Conducts walk-throughs of campus facilities
Monitors AEDs/bluelight phones, vehicle maintenance, bicycle registration, and property room
Provides key services, escorts and jump starts
Provides assistance to students, staff, and faculty

Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
1 year experience
Valid driver's license and excellent driving record
Ability to obtain or possess a basic first-aid and CPR certification
Ability to successfully pass a background check
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to write clear, accurate, and timely incident reports
Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and community partners
Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
Ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions in emergency and non-emergency situations
Ability to patrol campus on foot and by vehicle for extended periods, including climbing stairs, walking long distances, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
Basic computer skills and ability to use security systems, reporting software, radios, and mobile devices
Ability to support and uphold Gonzaga University’s mission and values in a diverse educational environment
Nice to have:
Two years college course work in a related field and/or two years work experience in law enforcement/security/public safety
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
Work experience in a higher education environment
Knowledge of de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution, and trauma-informed response practices
Experience conducting investigations and preparing detailed reports
