The Security Team plays a vital role in ensuring a safe healthcare environment for the hospital, building and grounds. We support a fast-paced environment as part of a level 2 trauma center. Security responds to incidents ranging from addressing aggressive individuals to completing visitor health screening. Security Officers are the first to greet visitors entering and help visitors find their way. Customer Service is a priority as well as handling disturbances and communicating effectively to support family-centered-care with an empathy-led mindset. Security Officers respond to alarms, emergency requests and apply effective verbal intervention to resolve incidents. Security Officers maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling private healthcare information. The Security Officer is a collaborative team player who provides extraordinary customer service that makes a difference for the children and families that we serve. Security Officers demonstrate conduct consistent with the Core Values and Mission of Valley Children's Healthcare.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain all Security Department and VCH policies, standard operating procedures, and protocols
Maintain a safe and secure environment for all employees, physicians, patients, visitors, and contractors/vendors on VCH property
Be prepared for emergency situations and respond to all incidents and emergency situations properly
Assist in visitor identification and health screening upon hospital entry
Provide relief dispatch coverage, including effective operation of video surveillance equipment
Ensure the safety and visitor entry of the Emergency Department at all times
Detect and report the existence of safety hazards
Patrol all premises and enforce visitor management expectations
Greet visitors entering and help visitors find their way
Handle disturbances and communicate effectively to support family-centered-care with an empathy-led mindset
Respond to alarms and emergency requests
Apply effective verbal intervention to resolve incidents
Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling private healthcare information
Requirements:
High School Diploma/G.E.D.
California BSIS Guard Card (or obtain within 90 days if holding POST/Proprietary Private Security Officer card)
BLS - Basic Life Support certification within 30 days
California Drivers License with acceptable driving record
Minimum six (6) months experience in security field, or Honorably Discharged military veteran, or graduate of accredited security program (Police Academy, Criminal Justice), or completion of security certification program
Availability to work any assigned shift
Must be able to read, write legibly, understand, and follow verbal and written English instruction
Possesses good communication and customer service skills
Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with Security peers, Hospital employees, physicians, the public, and local law enforcement
Must be able to work collaboratively with a team and independently using sound judgment and common sense
Computer Skills Familiarity with computer operations and Microsoft Office program (specifically Word documents)
Nice to have:
Minimum one (1) year Related experience
Previous security experience in healthcare or hospital environment
