As a Security Investigator, you will lead complex and sensitive internal investigations that protect Waymo’s people, property, and physical assets. You will serve as a neutral, objective fact-finder, navigating issues ranging from Code of Conduct violations and physical security breaches to complex property theft and workplace violence incidents. This role will be hybrid in the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area. This role reports to the Head of Security Operations Center.
Job Responsibility:
Manage the Investigative Lifecycle: Lead end-to-end, objective investigations into reported security incidents, policy violations, and physical threats, including the development of comprehensive investigative strategies and resource allocation
Lead Workplace Violence Prevention: Manage investigations into reported threats or acts of workplace violence, ensuring all actions are documented and executed in compliance with California SB 553 and other relevant safety legislation
Conduct Professional Investigative Interviews: Gather accurate and actionable information through professional interviews with witnesses, complainants, and subjects using established techniques
Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate seamlessly with HR, Legal, and Safety to ensure investigative findings are handled according to Waymo’s standards and employment law
Produce Professional Investigative Documentation: Draft comprehensive investigative reports that are clear, concise, and ready for review by legal counsel and relevant stakeholders
Analyze Trends for Improvement: Analyze investigative data to identify root causes of incidents and recommend practical process improvements to senior leadership
Requirements:
6+ years of professional experience in investigations, preferably within a corporate security, law enforcement, or specialized investigative agency
Specific experience managing Workplace Violence cases, including threat assessment and compliance with workplace safety laws (e.g., CA SB 553)
Proven experience conducting complex internal investigations within a large, matrixed organization
Demonstrated expertise in professional interviewing techniques (e.g., Wicklander-Zulawski or Reid)
Exceptional written communication skills with experience drafting formal reports for legal or executive audiences
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to handle highly sensitive and emotional situations with absolute confidentiality and objectivity
Nice to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law, or a related field
Experience in large-scale manufacturing, logistics, or industrial environments where physical asset protection is a primary focus
Advanced familiarity with investigative case management software and WPV incident logging requirements
Professional certifications such as PCI (Professional Certified Investigator)
Experience testifying in legal proceedings or presenting findings in a formal hearing environment
