Job Description

Section Engineer – Rail / Civil Engineering. 6‑month contract. £390 per shift (UMB PAYE). Are you an experienced Section Engineer with a background in major civil or rail infrastructure works? This role offers the chance to join a major Tier 1 contractor delivering high‑profile projects across the UK.

Job Responsibility

  • Reporting to the Sub Agent and supervising the engineering team through construction to handover
  • Managing and developing the Site Engineers
  • Supporting temporary works coordination and design briefs
  • Planning labour, plant, materials and temporary works with the Sub Agent and Foreman
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues on site
  • Ensuring works comply with safety, quality, and programme requirements
  • Coordinating subcontractors and monitoring performance
  • Ensuring the team has current drawings, information, and resources
  • Assisting with programmes, progress reporting, resource planning and cost control
  • Producing accurate site records and daily diaries

Requirements

  • HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience on major civils: piling, RC structures, drainage, earthworks, etc.
  • Ability to guide and manage junior Site Engineers
  • Strong understanding of Tier 1 paperwork and processes across H&S, quality, and commercial
  • Rail experience beneficial but not essential
