Are you a motivated individual ready to help Secondary students bridge the gap between "I can't" and "I've got this"? Do you have the energy to navigate a busy school day and the communication skills to build rapport with teenagers from all walks of life? We are seeking a proactive Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful Secondary School on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term role where you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, ensuring they stay engaged and on track with their learning. Due to the school's rural location, being a driver with access to a vehicle is essential, as public transport links do not align with school hours.
Job Responsibility:
Academic mentoring: work with small groups or 1:1 within the classroom to re-explain complex concepts in core subjects like English, Maths, and Science
Inclusion advocacy: support students with additional needs (SEND), ensuring they can access the same curriculum as their peers through modified tasks or visual aids
Behaviour for learning: act as a positive role model, using subtle de-escalation and encouragement to keep students focused and minimise disruptions in the classroom
Literacy & numeracy intervention: lead targeted "catch-up" sessions for students who need extra help reaching their age-related expectations
Examination support: act as a scribe or reader during mock and final exams, ensuring students with access arrangements are fully supported
Teacher partnership: collaborate with Subject Teachers to prepare resources and maintain an organised, high-energy learning environment
