In this role, you'll move beyond traditional academic benchmarks to focus on functional literacy, numeracy, and the 'Preparation for Adulthood' framework. Curriculum Creativity: Step away from GCSE-heavy pressure and deliver a bespoke, life-skills-based curriculum that priorities social development and vocational exploration. Small Class Environments: Lead a specialised setting (typically 6-12 students) with high staff-to-pupil ratios, allowing for intensive pastoral support. Professional Growth: Develop expertise in EHCP management for adolescents, working alongside vocational coaches and transition specialists.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver engaging lessons that translate academic concepts into real-world skills (budgeting, travel training, workplace communication)
Use total communication strategies (Makaton, PECS, or AAC) tailored to teenage learners
Collaborate with Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language specialists
Manage a dedicated team of Learning Support Assistants
Requirements:
QTS/QTLS
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
Experience within a Secondary or specialist setting
Genuine interest in or experience with Autism (ASC), PMLD, SLD, or SEMH
Ability to manage complex behaviours with a trauma-informed approach
100% dedicated to Safeguarding
