Job Description:

Secondary Learning Support Assistant for a specialist SEN school supporting pupils aged 11–16 with a range of needs, with a strong focus on autism (ASD) and behaviour support.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 and small-group support for secondary-age pupils with ASD and social, emotional & behavioural needs
  • Use positive behaviour strategies, de-escalation and regulation techniques to keep pupils safe, engaged and ready to learn
  • Adapt tasks, scaffold learning and pre-teach/review key concepts in collaboration with teachers and the SEN team
  • Support communication, independence and personal development targets in line with EHCPs
  • Maintain accurate notes, follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to team briefings

Requirements:

  • Previous school or alternative provision experience working with secondary-age pupils
  • Proven behaviour management skills (e.g., restorative approaches, emotion coaching, Team-Teach/MAPA desirable)
  • ASD experience: sensory awareness, structured routines, visual supports, communication strategies (PECS/visual timetables a bonus)
  • Calm, patient and resilient
  • able to build trust and set clear, consistent boundaries
  • Strong communication, reflective practice, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education

  • Team-Teach/MAPA training
  • PECS/visual timetables experience
