Job Description:

Our Parks Department is seeking safety-conscious, reliable team players who enjoy hands-on work with a sense of accomplishment. We offer seasonal opportunities for temporary full-time and auxiliary labourers. These positions offer hands-on training and experience in park maintenance and operations, including landscaping, irrigation, equipment use, habitat restoration, and more. This experience can serve as a stepping stone to other opportunities within the District. Labourers are initially assigned to a crew within one of six teams (Horticulture, Turf, Carpentry, Trails and Natural Areas, Arboriculture or Construction) but may work in any area as needed.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform diverse tasks in District Parks, including sports field and turf grass maintenance

  • Trail and infrastructure construction and maintenance

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Some experience in general parks maintenance, gardening and construction work, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence
  • An abstract that reflects a safe driving record
  • Physical and mental aptitude to work on a crew and learn new skills
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in routine maintenance and construction tasks
  • Ability to receive and carry out oral and written instruction and exercise some independent judgement
  • Skill in operating power and hand tools
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public
  • Physical strength, stamina and coordination for heavy manual work in all types of weather
