Join our team this summer at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park (EKW). Situated alongside the North Platte River, this 362-acre park features a range of nature viewing opportunities and outdoor activities, including a 3-mile paved hiking trail. As a team member, you'll be working in the midst of this beautiful natural setting, keeping the park safe and well-maintained while providing visitors with exceptional experiences through educational, cultural, and recreational activities. Whether you're seeking to launch a career in outdoor recreation or simply looking for summer employment, EKW State Park is the perfect place to be. Seasonal employment is typically from mid-May to mid-September. Some seasonal positions may begin earlier in the year and/or extend longer into the fall. The actual length of employment depends on the work location and the type of job performed.

Job Responsibility:

  • Seasonal Visitor Services Associate – Fee Collector: Greet visitors, collect admission fees, and provide excellent customer service
  • Answer visitor questions and provide pertinent information about the site
  • Handle monetary transactions, which include fee collection
  • Responsible for cash register reconciliation
  • Answer a multi-line telephone system, transferring calls to appropriate personnel
  • Assist with general administrative duties, reports, and data entry
  • Perform opening and closing duties, as well as cleaning and maintenance as needed
  • Provide janitorial services in the building and assist the Fee Supervisor with special projects and events
  • Assist all North Platte District sites with special projects and events
  • Assist with the development and delivery of educational and recreational programs
  • Seasonal Maintenance Worker: Perform routine building, grounds, and landscape maintenance, minor carpentry repairs, painting, and mowing
  • Assist staff in the construction, installation, maintenance, and renovation of grounds and buildings, and preventive maintenance
  • Clean and service restrooms, shelters, and buildings, and remove litter from grounds, parking lots, and other public areas
  • Operate and/or drive a variety of vehicles, including light and heavy equipment
  • Operate various maintenance equipment, including mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment required in daily operations
  • Utilize various hand and power tools
  • Follow proper handling and safety procedures when using cleaning chemicals and fuel products encountered in daily operations, including proper Personal Protective Equipment usage
  • Provide excellent customer service. May interact with the visiting public, answering basic questions
  • Assist all North Platte District sites with special projects and events
  • Assist with the development and delivery of educational and recreational programs

  • Answer visitor questions and provide information about the site, including interpretation and orientation of facilities and local points of interest
  • Perform programs, guided hikes, hands-on activities, and other personal interpretations

  • Administer, restock, and track program inventory
  • Assist with general administrative duties, reports, and data entry
  • Perform opening and closing duties, as well as janitorial services and maintenance as needed

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and thorough in completing assignments/tasks
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work on a variety of assignments every day
  • Experience in handling money, cash registers, and retail sales
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects with variable timelines and scopes of work
  • Basic construction and maintenance knowledge
  • Basic operational knowledge of light and heavy equipment use, as well as hand and power tools
  • Basic safety awareness of equipment use
  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds with or without assistance
