Job Description

Seafood Lead oversees the daily operations and performance of the seafood department, ensuring high-quality product presentation, inventory management, and extraordinary customer service. The Seafood Lead role involves leading, mentoring, and training a team following Vallarta Supermarkets training guidelines, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and executing merchandising strategies to increase sales. The Seafood Lead will also be the product knowledge expert in seafood.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist Meat Manager
  • plan, organize, and control Seafood department activities and operations
  • Actively control department expenses by minimizing shrinkage and pilferage
  • Track and report department sales, costs, and other performance metrics
  • Ensure compliance with state laws and regulations concerning weights and measures
  • Regularly audit pricing, codes, and tare weights
  • Prepare and submit required reports
  • Utilize the production tool to track and update department performance
  • Lead by example, greet all customers and team members
  • Responsible for ensuring extraordinary customer service by modeling Vallarta’s core values
  • Lead the team in delivering extraordinary customer service
  • Ensure all the seafood team create a welcoming and informative experience for customers
  • Promote sales through suggestive selling techniques

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in seafood/food handling, culinary services in grocery, retail, or restaurant setting
  • Friendly, courteous, and customer-oriented personality
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Ability to train and develop team members
  • Knowledge of products and operations in Seafood, Meat, and Cremeria department including safety, product presentation, and quality control
  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency to include Microsoft Word, Outlook, and inventory management systems
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Ability to stand, and walk, for extended periods
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, including exposure to perishable products
  • Willingness to transfer to other locations as needed
  • Exposure to seafood and meat odors
  • Ability to go in and out from refrigerated environments includes cold temperatures and wet surfaces
  • Flexibility to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
