A Scientist at Amgen is responsible for designing and conducting experiments, analyzing results, and interpreting data. They prepare technical reports, summaries, and protocols and present study results at team meetings. They also assist in maintaining lab equipment, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring safety protocols are adhered to. In this vital role you will join our Cardiometabolic Disorders team in Thousand Oaks, California to uncover novel target and disease mechanisms and advance therapeutic programs. The team focuses on developing therapeutics and elucidating disease biology for some of the most debilitating cardiometabolic disorders plaguing society. The individual will join a team of dedicated scientists committed to finding cures for these diseases to help patients. A well-suited applicant will have great molecular and cell biology laboratory skills, deep scientific curiosity, and strong interpersonal and communication skills to thrive in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, optimization, and implementation of in vitro and ex vivo mechanism-of-action and therapeutic validation studies that advance Amgen’s cardiometabolic disorders early pipeline. Job Responsibility:
Conduct laboratory-based experiments to deepen our understanding of cardiometabolic disease biology
Develop and implement assays to evaluate potential therapeutics to advance the pre-clinical pipeline
Use of laboratory techniques such as: cell culture (including primary cells), transfection and lentiviral transduction, CRISPR-based cell line engineering, ELISA, immunofluorescence and live cell imaging, SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting, molecular biology techniques including RNA and protein analysis
Organize, analyze, critically interpret, and properly document experimental design and data
Present research findings effectively in both written and oral formats for internal teams and external collaborators
Keep up to date on current literature and knowledge in the field to apply to experimental design and analysis
Requirements:
Doctorate Degree (PhD)
Master’s Degree with 3+ years of experience
Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of experience
Demonstrated expertise in molecular and cell biology laboratory techniques, especially as they pertain to cardiometabolic disease biology
Expertise working with both immortalized cell lines and primary cells
Extensive experience in cell-based, molecular and biochemical techniques, including live cell imaging and image processing, RNA isolation/qPCR, protein immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting, ELISA and flow cytometry
Hands-on expertise with cell line engineering technologies, including CRISPR and lentivirus-based stable cell line generation
Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting complex datasets
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A strong record of high-impact publications in this field
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently manage multiple projects
Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment
