Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and organised Science Laboratory Technician to support the delivery of practical Science lessons across the school. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) position, engaged on a freelance basis through green receipts (recibos verdes). This role is ideal for a recent Science graduate or someone considering a future career in education. It offers valuable experience working in a vibrant international school environment while supporting students and teachers in developing their scientific skills and knowledge.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare and set up equipment, materials, and resources for Science practical lessons
  • Assist teachers during laboratory activities when required
  • Ensure laboratories are clean, organised, and ready for teaching and learning
  • Maintain safe working practices in accordance with school health and safety procedures
  • Monitor and manage laboratory stock, equipment, and consumables
  • Support the safe storage and disposal of chemicals and materials
  • Report maintenance, safety, or equipment issues promptly
  • Work closely with Science teachers to support effective lesson delivery
  • Assist with science-related events, projects, and extracurricular activities
  • Contribute positively to the wider school community and uphold school safeguarding expectations

Requirements

  • A degree in a Science-related field (or be close to completing one)
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • An interest in working with young people and learning more about education
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, flexible approach
  • Previous laboratory or school experience is desirable but not essential
  • A good command of English and Portuguese
