The School Nurse at Reddam House plays an essential role in fostering the health, wellbeing, and safety of students across the Primary and Secondary levels. This position involves assessing and providing care to students attending the sick bay, adhering to best practice healthcare guidelines, and ensuring up-to-date, accurate health records. The School Nurse is responsible for administering daily medications, managing medical care plans, and maintaining first aid resources. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure a holistic approach to student wellbeing, consistent with Reddam House’s commitment to student care and safety.
Job Responsibility:
Assess and manage student health needs in the sick bay, including care plans and referrals to GPs or hospitals when necessary
Provide best-practice care and administer prescribed daily medications
Maintain medical care plans and manage emergency medications (e.g., Ventolin, EpiPens)
Ensure first aid kits and medical equipment are stocked and maintained across the school
Update and manage student medical records in ISAMS, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy
Log sick bay visits and complete incident reports as required
Participate in emergency response protocols, including urgent care and ambulance coordination
Support school health activities, including first aid at events, staff training, and compliance with health regulations
Requirements:
Experience in paediatric, school, or general nursing within similar settings
Strong knowledge of first aid, emergency response, and infection control
Ability to manage chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, allergies) in a school environment
Familiarity with child development and age-appropriate care for Primary and Secondary students
Proven ability to stay calm under pressure and make quick, informed decisions
Registered Nurse qualification
Current First Aid, CPR, and Anaphylaxis certification
Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures
Nice to have:
Additional training in mental health first aid or school health nursing desirable
