Job Description:

We are seeking a reliable and practical School Caretaker to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming school environment. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day security, safety and upkeep of the school site, ensuring that buildings and grounds are well maintained and ready for use by pupils, staff and visitors.

Job Responsibility:

Opening and securing the site each day
Carrying out routine site and safety checks
Supporting minor maintenance and repairs
Maintaining the school grounds
Acting as a keyholder responding to emergency call-outs when required
Supervising the cleaning team
Ensuring cleaning standards are maintained across the site
Supporting and covering cleaning duties in the absence of a cleaning team member

Requirements:

Able to work independently
Contribute effectively as part of a wider site and school team
Strong awareness of health and safety and security
Fit enough to carry out the duties of the role
Flexible in approach to working hours, including split-shift pattern and occasional emergency call-outs
Confident supervising staff and managing day-to-day site responsibilities

Good communication skills
Understanding of safeguarding within a school setting

Keep maintenance logs up to date and report larger issues to management or contractors
Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of key areas such as entrances, corridors and outdoor spaces
