We’re looking for a high‑impact business development professional who thrives on building relationships, opening doors, and creating opportunity through Small Business Administration (SBA) lending—with a strong emphasis on owner‑occupied commercial real estate financing. This role is built for someone who enjoys being out in the market, developing Centers of Influence (COIs), and serving as a trusted advisor to business owners, referral partners, and internal stakeholders. More than 80% of your time will be spent on external sales, relationship development, and market presence.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and originate SBA loan opportunities by proactively building a strong pipeline through COIs, referral partners, cold outreach, and existing relationships
Serve as a consultative partner to business owners by meeting them at their place of business to understand operations, goals, and financing needs—particularly related to owner‑occupied commercial real estate
Build, deepen, and maintain profitable specialty finance relationships with new and existing customers
Represent U.S. Bank in the market by actively participating in civic, community, and business events to strengthen the Bank’s brand and generate new business opportunities
Partner closely with Business Banking, Community, and Commercial teams to exchange leads, align on strategy, and exceed shared growth objectives
Own the SBA lending process end‑to‑end, including: Origination and structuring of SBA loan requests
Gathering and analyzing financial and credit information
Developing complete SBA loan packages and submitting to the SBA processing center
Delivering commitment letters, reviewing program details, and supporting loan closings
Contribute to portfolio growth by originating high‑quality SBA applications aligned with credit standards and business strategy
Proactively deepen relationships by identifying additional customer needs and referring opportunities to other U.S. Bank partners and solutions
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
Five to eight years of commercial credit, relationship banking or other job‑related experience
Demonstrated success in business development, B2B sales, and relationship‑driven revenue growth, ideally within financial services or commercial lending
Proven ability to build, manage, and leverage Centers of Influence (COIs) such as real estate professionals, CPAs, attorneys, brokers, and community leaders
Strong understanding of SBA lending products and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), with the ability to confidently guide customers and partners through the process
Consultative sales mindset with the ability to identify client needs, structure solutions, and position value, not just products
Strong credit, financial analysis, and deal‑structuring skills, with sound judgment around credit quality and risk
Ability to independently manage a robust external sales pipeline while coordinating effectively with internal partners
Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills, with comfort engaging business owners, referral partners, and internal stakeholders at all levels
Highly developed analytical, problem‑solving, and prioritization skills in a fast‑paced, goal‑driven environment
What we offer:
Healthcare (medical, dental, vision)
Basic term and optional term life insurance
Short-term and long-term disability
Pregnancy disability and parental leave
401(k) and employer-funded retirement plan
Paid vacation (from two to five weeks depending on salary grade and tenure)
Up to 11 paid holiday opportunities
Adoption assistance
Sick and Safe Leave accruals of one hour for every 30 worked, up to 80 hours per calendar year unless otherwise provided by law
