Job Description:

Are you creative, driven, and passionate about retail with a flair for customer service? We're looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Shop Manager to support the running of our busy charity shop in Hoddesdon on Saturdays. In this role, you’ll work alongside the Shop Manager and a dedicated team of volunteers to help run a vibrant and successful store. Each of our shops has its own unique character, and you'll play a key part in upholding our strong reputation within the local community. Your work won’t just help divert waste from landfill — it will directly support Isabel Hospice in providing expert care to those who need it most.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supporting the Shop Manager to maximise store income and profits by delivering exceptional retail standards
  • Maintaining and promoting the highest standard of customer care
  • Creating eye-catching displays and maintaining cleanliness throughout the shop
  • Supporting the Shop Manager to engage and train volunteers to assist in the running of the shop
  • Meeting gift aid conversion rates from people donating goods
  • Support events held both in the shop (evenings) and the local community

Requirements:

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Interest in or experience with sustainable fashion
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Shows understanding, respect and consideration for others at all times
  • Strong organisational skills with a proactive approach to work

  • To make the Parts Manager aware of any discrepancies regarding stocking levels, part numbers, buying and selling prices, bin locations, etc
  • To ensure that all items supplied to customers are invoiced correctly and in a timely manner
  • Maintain and nurture existing and prospective customer relationships
  • To serve customers in the depot shop with queries and sales, taking payment for goods
  • Maximise front counter and back counter trade and telephone sales. There may be a degree of online admin work with eBay and internet shop
  • Responsible for daily ordering of parts requested by customers (VORs) and be involved In discussions with parts manager to ascertain if an immobilised VOR order is required
  • Responsible for ordering of parts to maximise customer fill whilst considering stock turn, as to avoid VORs where possible (unless a customer request demands a VOR action)
