We are looking for a candidate to become our new Satellite Ground System Engineer (d/m/f) with focus on Mission Control for national space projects within Airbus Space Engineering, located in Friedrichshafen, Germany. You will be a member of the System Architecture & Lead Engineering Team with great team-players aside you. As a System Engineer (d/m/f) for ground systems, you will be part of a team based in Friedrichshafen supporting our integrated national space mission project teams. You will define the architecture for the control and monitoring of satellites, specify and integrate hardware and software components, and configure the mission control components. Beside the operational activities, you will contribute to our transformation plan that has the vision to become national champion for high-performance Ground-Space Mission Solutions. You will work on concrete operational tasks while capitalising return of experience for future secure space solution improvement.

Job Responsibility

  • Definition and design of Satellite Ground Systems: use of state-of-the-art methods (Scrum, Model-Based Systems Engineering)
  • Requirements analysis and architecture definition for Ground Segments regarding: satellite monitoring and control, interfaces to ground stations, mission planning systems
  • Design trade-offs and interface management: evaluation and optimization of design decisions, identification of internal and external interfaces, creation of interface documents (ICD)
  • Specification of hardware and software elements as well as redundancy concepts
  • Support in defining ground segment operating concepts and training of satellite operators
  • Cost estimates for Ground Segment development and operation
  • Support in system development, AIV (assembly, integration, verification)
  • Contributions to proposals and studies as well as research and development activities
  • Technical management for the procurement of software components
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Space Segment Engineering, Performance Engineering, Operations Engineering

Requirements

  • completed university degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Communications (Network), or equivalent qualification
  • more than 5 years of professional experience in relevant fields
  • knowledge and practical experience in processes and standards of the space industry (e.g., ECSS, CCSDS)
  • experience in systems engineering as well as with corresponding methods and tools
  • interest and ability to quickly familiarize oneself with new technologies
  • good communication and presentation skills
  • team-oriented work style
  • fluent German and English
