Located in our downtown Denver office, you will be responsible for sales & use tax payments, preparation of sales and use tax returns, reconciliation of data and research surrounding tax questions for approximately 40 states.
Job Responsibility
Responsible for direct analysis and assessment of our sales and use taxes
Determination of correct taxability of invoices for primarily the Denver and Colorado jurisdictions but also includes allocations of taxable purchases throughout the U.S. when required
Perform timely and accurate filings of all sales and use tax returns and payment of taxes due in state and city jurisdictions throughout the U.S.
Responsible for staying abreast of all tax regulations, as well as driving process improvement/automation and detection and remediation of any process defects
Manage tax exempt statuses, sales tax refunds, and closure of tax accounts in jurisdictions where taxes are no longer being paid
Monitor sales and use tax email inbox and respond timely to requests
Prepare journal entries and monthly account reconciliations as assigned
Participate in monthly close activities and reporting requirements
Ensures compliance with Mandate for Fundamental Financial Controls and existing SOX matrixes, identifies, and recommends controls changes
Participates in and supports testing and audit activities
Participate in special projects as assigned, which may include opportunities to work in advanced analytics and additional accounting functions
Other related accounting responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Requirements
BS in Accounting or Finance
5 years of specific tax analyst experience
Can substitute for accounting/ business experience for the right candidate
Solid understanding of sales and use tax
Solid understanding of basic accounting concepts
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy of data
Ability to take direction and work independently
Highly proficient in Excel with ability to manipulate large quantities of data
experience with Pivot Tables and Vlookups mandatory
Self-motivated, capable of seeking quality solutions and continuously focusing on process improvements, while keeping the needs of the business in the forefront
Demonstrated problem solving with an understanding of appropriate escalation points
Extremely organized with an ability to juggle multiple priorities and flexible to accommodate changing business needs and tight deadlines
Composure under time pressure

Willing to take on additional responsibilities as needed, outside of S&U Tax tasks, as directed by management
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
