Job Description:

Working within the Marine Division in the UK & Ireland Sales Company, the Sales Bid Engineer - Marine is responsible for preparing and submitting competitive, technically sound bids and proposals that meet client requirements while aligning with company standards and profitability goals. This role combines technical engineering with commercial acumen to secure new business opportunities.

Job Responsibility:

  • Analyse tender documents and customer requirements to develop compliant and compelling proposals
  • Prepare cost calculations, clarifications, and deviations for tenders
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to customer enquiries
  • Draft and review quotation documentation and evaluate quotation texts
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Project Management teams to define scope, specifications, and deliverables
  • Lead technical negotiations with customers alongside the Sales Manager
  • Conduct engineering risk assessments (e.g., PSP – Project Sales Plan) and ensure contract reviews follow internal processes
  • Identify and mitigate risks during bid preparation and execution phases
  • Ensure compliance with technical specifications, commercial requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Understand customer drivers and tailor proposals to maximise value for both the client and the company
  • Participate in clarification meetings and negotiations with clients
  • Maintain accurate records of bids, proposals, and related documentation
  • Provide regular updates and reports on bid status and performance metrics
  • Flexible in responding to changing client requirements and project scopes
  • Interpret technical data, financial models, and market research to inform bid strategies

Requirements:

  • High level of digital proficiency with Microsoft Office and other communication/collaboration tools
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and CRM systems is a plus
  • Naval, Commercial or Merchant Marine industry knowledge or experience is an advantage
  • Knowledge of equipment relevant to the marine industry
  • Technical expertise in engineering principles and systems
  • Cost estimation and risk assessment capabilities
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
  • Undertake BPSS clearance (Baseline Personnel Security Standard)

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD and CRM systems
