The Safety Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the Health and Safety components of the Integrated Management System (IMS) and monitoring compliance by Gas Networks Ireland and its contractors with both organisational and legal standards. The role includes oversight of the regions of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man, and will require periodic travel.
Job Responsibility:
Support Gas Networks Ireland in the creation, development, implementation and communication of health and safety strategy, policy and procedures
Provide health and safety support to Assets and Infrastructure projects and programmes and monitor and report on overall compliance to Health and Safety standards
Support Assets and Infrastructure in the safe delivery of projects and interface with contractor Health and Safety teams to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
Contribute to the annual risk-based network health and safety audit and inspection programme
Ensure that statutory reporting of accidents, incidents and ill health is undertaken in accordance with current legislation and GNI procedures
Support the delivery of the GNI risk assessment programme on an annual basis
Support the Integrated Management System audit programme
Support Health and Safety requirements of GNI procurement processes
Support the implementation of contractual financial adjustments where required
Escalate risks and issues to the Assets and Infrastructure Safety Lead as required
Uphold the values and beliefs of the Work Safe Home Safe programme
Work with other GNI departments and stakeholders as required
Support occupational and other health and safety initiatives as a member of the safety team
Perform other duties as required from time to time
Requirements:
Relevant third level qualification or equivalent experience required
A minimum of three years post-graduate experience in a professional engineering, utility or safety environment
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant safety legislation and ability to interpret and translate such information into business policy and procedures
Working knowledge of management systems, aspects and controls
A persuasive influencer and negotiator
Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
Demonstrated ability to successfully influence key internal and external stakeholders and identify issues that will impact business performance
Proven ability to act as an advocate for the development and implementation of change
Proven ability to work proactively both independently and as a member of a team
