The Safety Supervisor supports the Site Safety Director in implementing and maintaining all aspects of the company’s health, safety, and environmental (HSE) program for steel mill construction projects. This position ensures that the job site remains in full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as company and client requirements. The Safety Supervisor plays a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture through engagement, communication, and field leadership.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and audits to identify unsafe conditions or practices
ensure timely correction of hazards
Monitor field operations to verify compliance with OSHA standards and project-specific safety procedures
Support field supervisors and foremen in developing and implementing task-specific Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
Verify that subcontractors adhere to the site’s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) plan and conduct joint safety inspections when necessary
Conduct new hire safety orientations and ongoing training sessions for employees and subcontractors
Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings in coordination with field supervision
Communicate safety goals, performance metrics, and corrective actions to crews in a clear and supportive manner
Promote a "stop work" culture, empowering all employees to speak up about unsafe conditions
Respond to and assist in the investigation of any accidents, incidents, or near misses
gather documentation and prepare initial reports
Participate in root cause analyses and recommend preventive actions
Support emergency preparedness drills and ensure first-aid and rescue equipment are available and maintained
Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection logs, training attendance, incident reports, and corrective action tracking
Prepare and submit daily or weekly safety reports to the Safety Manager
Ensure that all safety documentation complies with company and client requirements
Work closely with the Safety Manager, Project Superintendent, and Construction Managers to integrate safety into project planning and execution
Mentor and guide craft personnel on safe work practices and compliance expectations
Represent the safety department in coordination meetings and client walkthroughs when requested
Requirements:
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in construction safety, preferably on heavy industrial or large-scale infrastructure projects
Experience in steel mill, refinery, or manufacturing construction is strongly preferred
OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required
First Aid/CPR certification required
CHST, STS, or equivalent professional safety credential preferred
Thorough understanding of OSHA standards, LOTO, fall protection, confined space entry, hot work, and crane/rigging operations
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to communicate safety expectations effectively across all levels of the workforce
Competent with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems for documentation and reporting
Ability to work independently in field conditions and adapt to a dynamic construction environment
