Purpose Responsible for overseeing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance across assigned regional operations within the Geospatial Division. This role supports the technical focus areas of Land Services (Right-of-Way), Mapping & Survey, Oil & Gas, and Aerial Operations (manned aircraft and Unmanned Aerial Systems – UAS). Partners closely with regional operations leadership and field teams to implement and enforce comprehensive safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive culture of safety. The position plays a critical role in reducing workplace injuries, minimizing risk exposure, and maintaining compliance with federal (OSHA), state, and local regulations.
Job Responsibility
Serve as the primary safety resource for regional leadership and field teams
Support day-to-day operational safety needs across multiple project sites
Partner with regional managers to integrate safety into project planning and execution
Promote a strong safety culture focused on hazard recognition, accountability, and continuous improvement
Provide regional leadership in implementing the company's enterprise Safety Management System (SMS)
Ensure project teams understand and comply with client safety standards, site requirements, and operational controls
Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations
Monitor and interpret regulatory changes affecting regional operations
Assist in preparation for and response to regulatory inspections
Work with Senior Safety Leader to develop and review Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) to meet client and regulatory expectations
Support compliance with FAA and other aviation-related requirements for manned and UAS operations, where applicable
Conduct routine and unannounced jobsite inspections across all service lines
Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly
Document findings and track trends to identify systemic risk areas
Provide practical, field-based safety guidance in diverse and remote environments
Identify SIF (Serious Injury & Fatality) indicators and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly
Deliver safety training programs tailored to regional operations
Support development of new Division specific training programs
Facilitate new hire safety orientation and subcontractor onboarding
Ensure required certifications and training records are current
Coach supervisors and field leads on safe work practices and leadership accountability
Serve as first point of contact for workplace injury reporting
Lead and document investigations of incidents, near-misses, and property damage events
Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive action plans
Track regional safety metrics (TRIR, DART, leading indicators)
Identify and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies to reduce accidents and injuries
Implement corporate and divisional safety policies at the regional level
Maintain safety documentation and reporting systems
Support subcontractor safety prequalification and oversight
Participate in client safety meetings and audits as required
Review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field preferred
5+ years of progressive safety experience in field-based operations
Experience supporting multi-site or regional operations
Background in geospatial services, surveying, oil & gas, utilities, infrastructure, or aviation operations strongly preferred
CSHO, CSP, ASP, GSP, or CHST preferred
OSHA 30-hour certification (or higher) preferred
EM 385-1-1 24-Hour Safety Training (minimum requirement for SSHO roles) preferred
