The Safety Manager will lead and manage the company’s safety programs across multiple sites in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. This role will serve as the primary safety resource for the tire manufacturing/tire-service industry operations, working directly with plant and site management to proactively identify hazards, ensure regulatory compliance (including federal OSHA and appropriate state-specific regulations), investigate incidents, drive corrective actions, and build a safety culture. The ideal candidate has strong field experience, is comfortable traveling extensively across the region, and can step into situations where safety expertise is required and guide senior leadership in what to do.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety audits and inspections of manufacturing, warehouse, tire servicing, or mobile operations at plant and field locations in the four-state region
Serve as the subject matter expert for safety issues: advise site leadership on hazard recognition, risk assessment, corrective action, mitigation strategies, and compliance obligations
Investigate accidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage incidents. Lead root-cause analysis, document findings, and collaborate with management to implement corrective/preventative measures
Administer and oversee Workers’ Compensation processes including injury reporting, documentation, return-to-work coordination, and communication with HR and insurance carriers to ensure timely and compliant case management
Maintain and ensure accuracy of DOT (Department of Transportation) files, including driver qualification files, drug/alcohol testing records, and vehicle inspection/maintenance logs
ensure compliance with all FMCSA and DOT safety regulations
Develop, implement and maintain safety policies, procedures, and standards tailored to tire-industry operations (e.g., handling heavy equipment, molds, compound materials, mechanical hazards, mobile equipment, loading/unloading tires, forklift/truck traffic)
Deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks for employees, supervisors and site leadership across operations. Ensure training is tailored to specific tire-industry risks and site realities Monthly safety meetings
Monitor and track safety metrics and leading/lagging indicators (e.g., incident rates, near-miss reports, audit findings, corrective action closure rates) and generate reports to management
Work with Center Managers to embed safety into operational decision-making, including new equipment, process changes, facility expansions, vendor/contractor safety oversight, and job hazard analyses (JHAs)
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local safety regulations, standards and best practices, including OSHA standards for general industry and any state-specific programs
Travel frequently between sites (California, Arizona, Las Cruces NM, and Texas) to maintain presence, build relationships, evaluate site conditions, and respond to emergent safety issues
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in safety management, ideally within manufacturing, automotive, or tire service environments
In-depth knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations
Proven ability to manage multi-state safety programs and work across diverse operational settings
Demonstrated success in handling Workers’ Compensation claims and developing injury prevention strategies
Experience delivering or certifying TIA training preferred
ability to lead tire service safety programs a strong plus
Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and train staff at all organizational levels
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems
