We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Safety, Health, and Wellbeing (SHW) Advisor for an initial 6-month contract based in East Perth. This dynamic role bridges the gap between corporate safety strategy and frontline operations. As a trusted partner to diverse directorates and project teams, you will combine analytical rigor with a collaborative, coaching-focused mindset. You will be responsible for translating corporate SHW policies into practical, on-the-ground standards, analyzing safety trends to mitigate risks, and driving a positive safety culture across both corporate and construction environments.
Job Responsibility
Strategic Advisory: Provide specialist advice to directorates and project teams on the application, intent, and execution of corporate SHW policies, procedures, and standards
Systemic Improvement: Undertake structured reviews of corporate SHW policies, procedures, and supporting tools in close consultation with key stakeholders to ensure they remain fit-for-purpose
Data Analytics & Reporting: Analyze safety trends and data to identify emerging SHW risks
Risk Management & Auditing: Facilitate and participate in risk workshops
Conduct thorough incident investigations and internal audits across corporate, directorate, and construction site levels
Systems Management: Manage, update, and oversee activities within assigned areas of the corporate SHW electronic reporting system to ensure strict data integrity
Coaching & Mentoring: Provide active on-the-ground support, coaching, and mentoring to managers, workers, and safety personnel to build capabilities and promote true safety ownership
Stakeholder Engagement: Attend and actively contribute to safety committee meetings, risk workshops, and deliver clear, professional briefings to diverse audiences
Requirements
Strategic Advisory Capabilities: A deep understanding of modern safety frameworks and a proven track record of advising diverse project teams on policy intent
Analytical Rigor: A keen eye for detail with the ability to translate complex safety data and trends into strategic business recommendations
Proactive Risk Management: Proven experience conducting internal audits, structured incident investigations (e.g., ICAM), and facilitating risk workshops spanning from corporate offices to construction environments
Influencing & Coaching Mindset: A natural ability to mentor and influence personnel at all levels—from frontline construction workers to senior management
Technical Proficiency: High competence in managing and navigating electronic SHW reporting software/database management systems
Communication Skills: Strong collaborative and communication skills, comfortable presenting at committee meetings and writing high-quality executive safety reports
A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), Workplace Health & Safety (WHS), or a related discipline
A valid WA Construction Induction Training Card (White Card)
A valid WA Driver’s License (for potential site travel)
Nice to have
Formal training in a recognized incident investigation methodology (ICAM or TapRooT) is highly desirable
Internal/Lead Auditor certification (ISO 45001) is advantageous
